Sunny California (sorta)

Hi everyone! Just checking in from sunny sunny California. Well, sorta - it's raining this morning. But I'll take rain ANY DAY over the -3 degrees blizzard that we had in Chicago. It was quite literally blizzarding...it was -3 degrees but with windchill it was -35 degrees. Surprisingly, we had no delays whatsoever, and go checked in and through security in 15 minutes.

There's a lot of stuff on the agenda for today, but I am DETERMINED to head out to CVS for some major holiday shopping! Not to mention the free Conair Gel Grips Ionic Styler Dryer from Walgreens. Today ONLY, it's half-off at $10 with a $10 register reward. And the best thing abotu all of this shopping is that I won't have to take it home - I'm just going to leave it at my in-law's house, and when we move down here in a couple of weeks I will collect my haul. Or, they can always just use it - we all know that CVS and Walgreens offers enough freebies and moneymakers for one to share with the entire block, and then some.

I will continue to check in while on vacation, and I might even have more time to blog than when I was at home, considering there is currently a mile long waiting list to hold/feed/entertain the baby. Ah...don't you just LOVE family?

JCPenney: $35 savings!

A couple days ago I received a $15 off $15 coupon to JCPenney, and today we stopped by to pick up a last little something for Christmas. 

Both of these were originally priced at $20, but they were on a 50% sale, making them both $9.99.  Combined with my $15 off $15 coupon, I ended up getting both items for $2.50 each!

Normally I prefer to do my shopping at discount retailers, but $2.50 for a revolving clock with photo is a pretty sweet deal that really can't be beat!

$0.40 Lambie!

After the little princess' Gymboree class this afternoon, I braved the Christmas crowds and stopped by Bath and Body works to pick up my free Little Lambie.  Until tomorrow, you can get a free 6" Little Lambie with ANY purchase by printing and using this coupon in-store. 

There is no minimum purchase required, so I picked up at $1.50 nail file.  This would have been a pretty sweet deal already, but the nail file was 75% off, making it a grand $0.37!

After tax, I paid $0.40 for a nail file and a Lambie.  This new cheapie Lambie will be a fine addition to my Lambie Army.

Things I Love Thursday: Scotch Paper Cutter $0.50 at Walmart!

Couponing isn't exactly a chore to me (because otherwise I wouldn't do it), but I really can't admit that I enjoy cutting coupons too much. I don't mind sorting them, and I probably wouldn't mind cutting them so much if the scissors didn't give me carpel tunnel syndrome after a bit. Part of the reason is that I use these large scissors that I found in the fabric department of Walmart, and while they obviously don't fit my tiny hands, I would use no other type of scissors because they're just so sharp and so efficient. That still doesn't change the fact that my hands hurt after a while.

Enter the Scotch Paper Cutter. I think it's originally designed for holiday gift wrap cutting, but it works wonders on coupons (and actually anything else you need to cut out). It's basically just a push action, instead of having to work my fingers. I'm pretty sure that you can purchase it anytime of the year, but around the holidays it tends to be a bit easier to find and is often on sale.

Which is how I got my paper cutter for $0.50. Yes. Just two quarters. When I set out to find it at Walmart yesterday, I was expecting to have to pay somewhere in the range of $4 or $5. I had a $1 coupon from a recent insert, but honestly price wasn't the main issue here. I was just tired of using scissors, and a paper cutter that I will be heavily abusing using every week seems like a good investment.

Imagine my surprise when I found them in the home office department for $1.50! They had some in the actual aisle priced at around $4, but then at the end of the aisle on the side of the endcap they had a whole display of paper cutters, and someone had written with a sharpie $2.50, then crossed it out to $1.50.

I really didn't expect it to scan at $1.50, especially with the so "unofficial" markdown. I mean, really now...anyone passing by could have scribbled it on. But nope - it rang up at $1.50, and after my $1 coupon I ended up paying $0.50 for this couponer's hand-saving grace.

Amazon.com Huggies deal update

I am so done with this whole Huggies mess. A quick history lesson: on Saturday night Amazon.com was selling a box of 264 size 1-2 diapers for $17.65 with $6.95 shipping. The diapers were sold/shipped by DAB Nutrition. By spending $25 or more, you were eligible for a $15 rebate (or a magazine subscription here). I placed my order around 6pm on Saturday, and had it canceled Sunday afternoon at 12pm.

First of all, I'm ticked that I can't get the diapers that were advertised. My order was canceled, and then the same vendor listed the product for $69.95. And now I find out that my credit card was charged, even though the cancellation email said that my card would not be charged.

I called immediately on Monday, and after spending a good 3 hours on the phone being bounced around by Amazon.com, this whole mess is no closer to being revolved. It has now been 5 days since I placed my order.

To be fair though, Amazon has issued a total of $25 credit to my account, and DAB Nutrition said they will be sending out a free product for me. I appreciate all of that, but honestly...does Amazon think they can just buy my trust back? Why in the world would I place another order if you can't tell me why the first one was canceled?

I still really have no idea why my order was canceled. According to DAB Nutrition, it was a screw-up by Amazon. They were listing zip lock bags, and somehow the product code got messed up and it was listed as diapers instead. According to Dan at DAB Nutrition, they don't even CARRY Huggies. O...kay? What in the world...?! Besides, if that was the case, why did they send out an apology email on Monday morning that said: ""Due to a pricing error through Amazon we had to cancel the orders. We simply are unable to sell at this price because of agreements with Amazon and other vendors. We apologize for the confusion." This statement leads me to believe that they DO in fact carry Huggies diapers. You can't have an agreement with Amazon and other vendors on a product that you don't have. And I love how they view their agreement with other vendors more importantly than their agreement with their customers. But whatever.

I saw a product that I wanted. I paid for it. My money was taken. I'm not getting my product. My money has not been returned yet. It's as simple as that. I'm not out to play the blame game, and I could care less who's at fault. DAB Nutrition will never get my business again, and at the rate that they're going, Amazon.com will never get my business again either.

I spoke with probably about 10 representatives from Amazon.com by now. Two of them were very helpful, most were not. Some were so heavily accented that I could barely understand them. I'm all for equal opportunity, but when your job is to communicate with someone using ONLY your voice, you need to have a clear speaking voice! And then there were the representatives that were just plain old rude. One guy actually had the guts to yell at me and tell me to be patient. HUH? You took my money in under 12 hours, but you want me to give you DAYS to return my money for a mistake that you made?!

Oh, and remember the section of Amazon.com's Seller Participating Agreement that I shared with you in my last update? NONE of the representatives that I spoke with knew that it existed. I had to tell them where to look for it. Someone please explain to me why I know more about the company than their employees. It didn't take me long to find it either - I think I did a search for seller obligation or seller contract in their help section and it popped right up. It wasn't this massive undertaking - it took all of 5 minutes.

It's nice that Amazon issued me a $25 credit and DAB Nutrition wants to send me some free soap, but I cannot be bought. My trust cannot be bought. I would rather pay a couple dollars more and support a reputable and honorable company with my business.

Amazon.com Huggies deal - further developments

This whole Huggies deal is just becoming a royal mess. This all started on Saturday when Amazon.com was selling a box of 264 size 1-2 diapers for $17.65 with $6.95 shipping. The diapers were sold/shipped by DAB Nutrition. There was also a $15 rebate to be had, and you can read the full details about it here.

Yesterday afternoon I received a email stating that my order was canceled. I immediately called Amazon.com, but since it was the weekend, besides sending out emails to Amazon.com and DAB Nutrition, there was not much else that I can do. You can read my original update post here.

This morning, I set out to figure out what Amazon.com and DAB Nutrition was going to do about this mess. I received an email back from DAB Nutrition, and this is what it said:

"Due to a pricing error through Amazon we had to cancel the orders. We simply are unable to sell at this price because of agreements with Amazon and other vendors. We apologize for the confusion."

That's it. Nothing else. When I called them at 1-800-775-5713 (their business hours are 10am - 5pm), the first time around I was promptly hung up on. The second time I was asked to leave my name and number for someone to call me back. I'm not too optimistic on that happening.

After dealing with DAB Nutrition, I called Amazon.com and I wanted to see what they were going to do about it. At the time, DAB Nutrition was still listed as an alternate seller for the Huggies diapers. They were selling at $69.95 with $10 shipping. They have now been removed as a seller, and rightly so.

According to Amazon.com's Participating Agreement for sellers, #8a states:

"For sales where a Seller lists goods at a fixed price ("fixed price sales"), the Seller is obligated to sell the goods at the listed price to Buyers who meet the Seller's terms. By listing an item in a fixed price sale , you represent and warrant to prospective Buyers that you have the right and ability to sell, and that the listing is accurate, current, and complete and is not misleading or otherwise deceptive."

DAB Nutrition obviously broke this agreement. It is not MY fault that they listed the product at an incorrect price. Furthermore, by the seller agreement, they are obligated to sell the goods at the listed price.

And this just gets better. Yesterday afternoon when I received the cancellation email, it said that "Your credit card was not charged for the order". Well, that's a lie, because when I checked my credit card statement, my card shows a $37.25 charge. Furthermore, the $5 Amazon.com gift card that I used has STILL not been credited back to my Amazon.com account.

Needless to say, I am EXTREMELY disappointed with how this is playing out, especially with Amazon.com. How they allowed a seller to scam countless people is beyond me. Last I checked, there were 43 negative reviews on the product, all from buyers who are in the same boat as me. I'm pretty sure that there are more people out there with this problem. Amazon.com is a reputable and trusted place to shop online, or so I thought. I was on hold for more than 45 minutes trying to speak with someone, and only on my 4th try did a person actually help me. An "investigation" was started to get my money back, but I am STILL out that $5 Amazon.com gift card. Besides, what is there to investigate? I paid money for diapers. I won't be getting diapers. But they took my money. It's not rocket science people...!

I would much rather get my 2 boxes of diapers than get my money back. And beyond that, no one has compensated me for my time - I spent the ENTIRE morning on the phone with these incompetent customer service "representatives". I spoke to maybe 6 people since Sunday...only 2 of them could be considered as actually helping. One guy actually had the guts to ask me whether or not I thought the price was absurd and asked me why I ordered it. HUH?! It's a product on Amazon.com, a (used to be) trusted online merchant, I do NOT expect to see scams on there! It's not as if I saw the diapers listed on craigslist or something!

I am extremely disappointed and angry about this whole matter, and I will be doing all that I can to see that Amazon.com honors their agreement and gets me my two boxes of diapers for $17.65 each with $6.95 shipping. If a product is mislabeled in the grocery store, the store honors that price. Amazon.com needs to do the same thing, especially since there is NO CHANCE a product can be misplaced or mis-shelved - since there are not shelves to deal with...!!

I have to take the princess to a playdate in about half an hour, but when I return this afternoon I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. I will be sure to update on how things go with both Amazon.com and DAB Nutrition.

Yesterday I shared a Huggies deal with you - Amazon.com was selling a box of 264 size 1-2 diapers for $17.65 with $6.95 shipping. The diapers were sold/shipped by DAB Nutrition. I managed to get 528 diapers for $0.04 each with a giftcard, or so I thought.

I received my order confirmation email at 6:09 PM, but this afternoon at 12:34 PM I received an email stating my order was canceled with no reason given whatsoever. It's certainly not because they ran out of stock, because the diapers are currently selling for $69.95 + $9.95 shipping from DAB Nutrition.

Needless to say, I am more than just a little ruffled about this whole thing. There is no reason for a retailer to cancel an order just to force someone to pay $52 more for the same item. That is ridiculous.

Since it is Sunday, all that I've been able to do is call Amazon.com. The representative that I spoke with was extremely nice, and credited my account for $5 for my trouble, and then reimbursed me for another $5 to make up for the Amazon.com giftcard that I used (and cannot use again). However, since no actual "money" changed hands, Amazon.com cannot do anything further. They can't even tell me why the order was canceled.

I tried to call DAB Nutrition, but they are closed for the weekend. If you placed an order and had it canceled as well, I encourage you to contact Amazon.com AND DAB Nutrition. You can find the contact information for DAB Nutrition here. Even though Amazon.com says they can't do anything about it, I think it's a bunch of dog doody. They are in partnership with DAB Nutrition, and they allowed the product to be listed at that price. After all, I did not receive an order confirmation from DAB Nutrition - I received it from Amazon.com.

You can bet your bottom dollar that I'm not just going to let this go, and I will be sure to post updates on this ridiculous mess.

Steals 'n Deals alert - Huggies Diapers!

Thanks to Baby Cheapskate, I managed to get some super cheap diapers shipped to my door! If you've got a baby in your life that wears size 1-2, you will definitely want to take advantage of this deal!

A box of 264 Huggies Snug & Dry Baby-Shaped diapers are $17.65, and should fit babies between 8 lbs and 15 lbs. Shipping is $6.95, but right now there's a rebate deal going on. Spend $25 or more and receive either a 2-year subscription to Cookie magazine or a $15 refund.

So, buy two boxes (528 diapers for $35.30) and with the $6.95 shipping, your up-front cost is $42.25. After your $15 refund, your cost goes down to just $27.25, which makes it just $0.05 per diaper!

I managed to make this deal even sweeter by using a $5 Amazon gift certificate that I received from taking a survey. I had gotten the email code back in July, so I wasn't sure if it worked, but it did so I ended up paying $37.25 up front. But actually, it wasn't money out of my pocket because I paid for it using a Visa giftcard from AT&T. After my $15 rebate, my "cost" is just $22.25 - my cost per diaper goes down to $0.04!!!

528 diapers is a lot of diapers, so be sure that the baby in your life can use them all while they still fit! Guesstimating that you go through 5 diapers a day, the 2 boxes should last you about three and a half months. But, if you find that the little bugger grew too fast or something, consider donating your leftovers to a shelter or something - diapers are ALWAYS needed!
