I'm baaaack....!

So, it turns out I picked a really bad time to start a blog. The month-long hiatus is mainly due to the fact that we recently moved from South Carolina to Illinois, and it has been anything but a smooth move. It was one of those things that we knew was gonna happen sooner or later, but whether it was next week or next month no one really knew. We had been waiting to move since May, and finally left on July 8th.

If you're having a bad day, read on as I describe some of the highlights of the past month and I guarantee you that I will make you feel better =P.
  • Picking up my husband from the airport on Sunday at 12pm, and scrambling to get things ready for the packers to come on Monday at 9am while our 2-month old baby screamed her head off for most of the day.
  • Driving 1.5 days with 2 adults, 2 dogs, and a 2-month old in a Honda Fit. And with all of the luggage that is involved. Possible...just not really comfortable, or recommended.
  • Finally getting here, only to find out that although our house was ready on Friday July 11th, we couldn't move in until Monday July 14th, because housing do not do move-ins on weekends due to having only one person in the office, but while they are explaining this to me, there is one lady working at a desk, another lady in the back, and the lady explaining this to me. I guess the other two people are just holograms or something.
  • So, we had to stay in a crappy hotel for 3 days. We're supposed to be reimbursed for this, and also for our mileage, but although they keep telling us our money is coming, we have yet to see a penny of this.
  • Our shipment arrives on Tuesday July 15th, and it turns out the container with our stuff FELL OFF THE BACK OF THE TRUCK on its way here. Yes...fell off the truck, onto the road. Our stuff left in an Allied van, and arrived in a rental van. Needless to say many things were broken - including the TV, dryer, table, desk, crib, entertainment center...etc. And they had to show up at 1pm and weren't out of here until 11pm.
  • Then I spent a week tracking down Allied to begin filling our claim - I spent every single moment of the rest of the week on the phone trying to find the right office. Apparently everyone is convinced it's someone else's responsibility and not theirs.
  • I finally find the right person, who had my contact information and my case even before my shipment arrived, but did NOT contact me because he thought someone else was handling it. And they can't even get a claim person out to my house until August 9th, and my stuff arrived July 15th. Just nearly a month after all my household goods arrived damaged.
  • Because it's impossible to survive without a working washer and dryer with a 2-month old in the house, we go out and buy a set from Home Depot. Long story short - the store we went to didn't have an electric dryer, sent us to a store 40 miles out of our way, only for me to discover that there is another Home Depot 10 minutes from my house that had the electric dryer all along. After a call to their customer service, I received a $50 giftcard as compensation for our time and gas spent, but needless to say after this fiasco I will not be returning to Home Depot after we get rid of the giftcard.
  • Oh, and while all of this is happening, I should mention that my poor baby got a hoarse voice from crying so much in the car/following days of chaos, and I'm having so many problems with my kneecap/knee that the orthopedic doctor is considering surgery. And our house is 2 stories too.
Oh, life is so much fun. Sorry about the rant, but I just needed to get that off my chest. Since I moved into a new area, it will take me some time to get back into the swing of things, but now that we're somewhat settled, I won't be disappearing for a month again!

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled programming now!
