Declutter Challenge Day 13: Living room Curio display cabinet

Today I am doing our living room curio cabinet. This cabinet was found at an antique mall while I was in college in Southern California - my parents were visiting me for Thanksgiving (they lived 8 hours away in Northern California), and my dad fell in love with the cabinet so much that he bought it even though he had no way to transport it home. He wanted to ship it, but never got around to it, so when I moved, it came with me. Honestly, he really should not have bought it since there was no way for him to get it, but it was only $200 and he could not resist. Oh well, free furniture for me.
This last Christmas, we got some crystal wine glasses from my father-in-law, so those go into the cabinet. For his birthday 2 years ago, I gave my husband a model of his 1962 Ford Falcon, so that goes into the cabinet, along with a sword and dagger I got from a trip to China. I also put some of my husband's swimming trophies/plaques in there, and as soon as I find my medals from figure skating I'll put them in there too.

We've had Chloe since she was 6 weeks old, so I painstakingly collected her puppy teeth when they fell out. Originally I had 13, but the moving company didn't secure the box I put them in and I had to pick them out of the bottom of the moving box. I only recovered 10. Well, those 10 are going into this cabinet. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get puppy teeth? You literally have to watch her constantly for a month and pry open her mouth the second she seems to be chewing on something that you didn't see her pick up. Apparently she had difficulty understanding me when I said "don't swallow your teeth" - I can't imagine why...I was speaking perfectly clear!

Anyway, I inherited some wooden figurines and swarovski crystal from my parents. They have a complete set of lunar year animals - one for each year in the Chinese calendar. The wood set comes with a house, while the swarovski crystal set doesn't, but I managed to squeeze them into the house anyway. They used to display this when I was little, but for the past 10 years it was just in a box in their garage, so I took it and put it in the cabinet I got from them.

Sorry for the glare, but the cabinet has a mirrored backing, so it was unavoidable. Putting the house together took longer than I had planned, simply because I was trying to put them in order, but then promptly gave up because I had to put them in a compartment according to their size.

It is basically the first thing you see when you come into the house, because it is facing the door, and I think it gives visitors a very nice first impression of our house.
