Think Thin Thursdays

I am SO excited to participate in Think Thin Thursdays at The Not-So-Blog Blog. I'm going to take a step out of my comfort zone and share not only my weight but also pictures of my journey. To be completely honest with you, I'm not at all sensitive about my weight. I was a dancer and a figure skater - I'm used to having my weight analyzed and discussed like the six o'clock news. However, this is NOT a weight loss journey. My reason for joining Think Thin Thursdays to get rid of my unsightly flab of a belly.

I gained over 50 pounds when I was pregnant with the little princess. But I basically walked out of the hospital at my pre-pregnancy weight. And no, I didn't get liposuction on my way out. And no, my daughter didn't weigh 50 pounds when she was born...she was a healthy 6lbs 12oz. However, I was left with quite the unsightly flab of skin. I think I actually looked slimmer and better when I was in my first trimester.

While I may not be sensitive about my weight, I am sensitive about what my belly has become. As an athlete, I had a toned body. There was not an ounce of fat on my body. I spent many hours in the gym doing weight training with the football team. Besides, when you're wearing a spandex leotard every day, you've got some serious motivation to make sure you're in shape.

Did I really have to post disgusting pictures of my belly and make you want to throw up your last meal? No. But it's really time that I did something about it instead of just dressing smartly to hide it, and part of the reason that I joined Think Thin Thursdays is to hold myself accountable. My goal is to lose that unsightly belly. Instead of just saying "I'm going to lose that belly!" with 2 dogs and a baby as my witness, I am saying it here on my blog with all my readers as my witness. You have permission to yell at me if I try to act old and senile in a couple of weeks and forget that I said this.

To be completely honest with you, I'm really not sure if I can tone my belly up to what it was before. I'm not even sure I can tone it up to lose my double belly-chin. I'm well aware that pregnancy leaves certain permanent marks on a woman's body, but the least I can do is try. I'm not looking to win any bikini contests, but at the same time I would like the option of wearing a bikini again sometime in my life.

This week, my goal is simply to do my old warm-up everyday and see where that gets me. What this consists of is basically a 15 minute "warm-up" that I used to do. Couple plies in all the regular old positions, and then a 5 minute variety of different crunches/sit-ups. I used to do it at least four times a day half asleep, but I have a feeling it's going to just plain old HURT the first time around. I did it as a warm-up and a warm-down, and I wasn't even winded afterwards. I used to sing and do sit-ups at the same time. Obviously, that's probably not going to happen this week. There are many muscles that have not been worked in a loooooong time...they're about to get a rude awakening.

I'm also interested to see what this would do to my weight. Like I said, this is not a weight-loss journey, but I think it'll be interesting to see what happens. My BMI is currently 20.9 which is a healthy height/weight ratio. I'm 5ft tall, and I weigh 107lbs. Since I am nursing, I have to be careful and keep an eye on things. So instead of weight being a goal, it's more like an alarm system. I really can't stand to lose any weight...the last thing I need is the baby's pediatrician coming after me.

To keep track of my progress, I will be scheduling a post for next week's Think Thin Thursdays and updating it daily with my progress. On Thursday, I will be publishing it and signing the Shrinky Linky over at The Not-So-Blog Blog. Be prepared for a lot of whining, and be nice.

Want to play along? Do you have your own fitness or weight-loss goals? Join Think Thin Thursdays at The Not-So-Blog Blog and let's be each other's cheerleader!

Great post, Rita! I, too, am a dancer. I still teach and have to look at myself in a room full of mirrors EVERY week. I can certainly sympathize!
