Family traditions, old and new!

Yesterday's MomDot party much fun! I met tons of great new bloggers, and I can't wait to meet more! This is getting more exciting by the day. Today's question (brought to you by
What are some of your favorite family traditions? What are some traditions you want to begin?

We don't really have any traditions, considering this is only our 4th Christmas as a couple and the first Christmas as a family with a little baby! But we both have things that we did when we were growing up, so we try to make them into our own traditions.

My aunt gave me a snowman ornament, and for reasons that I still don't understand to this day, I LOVE that little snowman. He's completely beat up and he must be at least 15 years old now, but I love him and he must ALWAYS have a spot as close to the top of the tree as possible.

I spent some time in England as a kid, and they have these crackers there that are real big and a staple for Christmas. So now, every Christmas I must get a bunch of crackers. And the rule is that no one can crack one until Christmas day. But the thing is...I'm scared of cracking them. I'm weird.

A tradition that we started last year (and will probably keep) is that we each get to pick one present to open before bed on Christmas Eve.

I'm not sure what traditions we want to start - traditions aren't exactly planned, and they just happened. So we'll see what happens and what sticks!

Oh, and by the way, in our house, reindeer do not pull Santa's sleigh. Rein-puppies do. And Chloe is on the secret rein-puppy team. She's got all the inside info on rein-puppy business, but she's not a liberty to share.

I still have some ornaments from when I was a little girl. I never put a tree up, but I still always bring them out! Here's My Day 2! I have Mr. Linky up, so leave your link!

We have a few traditions that we share with our children! We bake cookies christmas eve DAY and leave them out for santa with some milk (as I'm sure 99% of families do :)! But we don't stop there we make a trail from our front door to the end of our driveway with "reindeer food" on christmas eve so the reindeer know which way to go. We don't have a chimney santa can come down so we leave a magic key on our door knob so he can get in. After santa delivers the presents he rings his magic bell which tells the littles one that he has delivered the gifts! :) We also do the typical advent calendar and we have a count down chalk board as well. Christmas eve is typically spent at my father in laws exchanging gifts with my husbands side, we put on our special christmas pj's before we leave. That way when we get home we can put everything out for santa and the reindeer and read the night before christmas. Then the children watch POLAR EXPRESS before they fall asleep. Christmas morning is the usual with a huge breakfast and lots of fun. Christmas afternoon is then spent at my moms for exchanging gifts with my side :) It's busy .. but so much fun!

To my son every deer he sees is a reindeer. I have tried to explain the difference to no avail.

Reminiscing over old ornaments is possibly the best part of decorating the tree, isn't it? The snowman sounds like a great momento for you.

We like to open one present on Christmas Eve as well.

Rein-puppies, how cute! I still have ornaments from when I was little, that have to go on the tree. It wouldn't be Christmas without them.

I love taking out each ornament and remembering the special meaning behind them. Your dog is way too cute. I can't believe she keeps them on like that.

Good point! Traditions should evolve in your own family. You'll make new family traditions, I'm sure.

I'm so slow lol. When you said crackers I was thinking the kind you eat. Don't worry, I finally got it. It's late, what can I say?

Isn't it fun to carry on some of the traditions from where we were growing up? I love that picture, btw, that's so cute!

That is such a cute picture! I love the idea of your snowman. I love it when you have something from long ago that has made it to the present in one piece. That doesn't happen very often for me. LOL Glad you have something special to look forward too! ;)
