Menu Plan for September 14th - September 20th

Before I get to this week's menu plan, I just thought I'd take a second to share how I menu plan.  One popular way to make a menu plan is to browse the grocery ads and plan your meals around what's on sale, but that's not the way I do it.  We shop exclusively at the commissary, and while I can browse their sale items online, they very rarely have things like meat on sale.  Instead, I do our menu plan around our family schedule.

I first determine which day(s) of the week my husband won't be home because of work, and I make those our "leftovers" day.  Then I start looking for some quick and easy meals for Wednesday and Friday.  On Wednesdays, we take Chloe to class so it's a busy and chaotic day.  On Fridays the pool has Family Fun Night, and we like to take the little princess for a dip in the pool.  By the time we get home we're starving, so it's nice to have a quick meal for the day.

Then I just simply fill in the blanks for the rest of the week after seeing what I already have.  I try to make sure my family eats at least one chicken, pork/beef, and vegetarian meal a week, but I try to space out the meals so we're not eating meat or vegetarian back-to-back or something.  I also try to schedule more "complex" meals on the weekends when my husband will be home and can help me.  He's a much better cook than I am so it's nice to have him around for those more complicated dishes, and sometimes I just need help keeping the baby entertained, even if I'm just making fried rice.

Anyway, without further delay, here's our menu for the week:

Hearty Vegetable Lasagna

Hoisin-Glazed Chicken

Pasta with Tomato-Mushroom Sauce

Bacon-Cured Skirt Steak

Sweet Pea Fried Rice

Hamburgers & Hot Dogs

always, if there's a dinner that strikes your fancy, please email me
and I would be happy to share the recipe! As a rule of thumb, for Mmm
Mondays! I try to highlight a recipe from the last week's menu plan. So
if you would like a recipe, I would be more than happy to share it in
next week's Mmm Monday!
